Autumn 2026
10 weekly sessions on Tuesdays, 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm, starting 29 September
The human mind and behaviour is of enduring interest. This course will provide an introduction to the science of psychology. We will begin by looking at the 'hardware' of behaviour - the brain and the nervous system. Various other topics will be considered. We will look at different theories of personality and emotion. We will also look at learning, memory and perception. Why is memory sometimes unreliable, and why do we experience visual illusions? Why do we sometimes ignore our perceptions when in a group? We will also consider the psychology of humour and what happens when the mind goes wrong with different mental conditions, such as depression. This course will appeal to anyone interested in why we are how we are.
This class will take place on QUB campus
