OLE3697 Voices from Aldeburgh - The Music, Life and Legacy of Benjamin Britten

£0.00 / unit

Alec Macdonald, BMus

Fee £50.00 (concession rate £40.00) - fee will amend when you select the appropriate fee rate below.

Autumn 2026

10 weekly sessions on Fridays, 11.00 am to 12.00 noon, starting 2 October

In his lifetime, and in the years following his death on December 4, 1976, Britten's music provoked strong reactions in both critics and the concert-going public. Some considered him one of the greatest British composers of the time, indeed of all time, while others bandied about terms such as 'too clever' (whatever that means!). Others, meanwhile, objected strongly to aspects of his personal life, though I would like to think that in 2026, this no longer presents a barrier to a balanced appreciation of his music on the 50th anniversary of his death.

This class will take place on QUB campus

No class on Friday 30 October
