£0.00 / unit

Fee £100.00 (concession rate £80.00) - fee will amend when you select the appropriate fee rate below.

New Year 2026

10 weekly sessions on Wednesdays 11.00 am to 1.00 pm, starting 21 January

The twentieth century started badly for the Conservatives, with a crushing defeat in the 1906 general election, but the Great War brought them back into government and then the party dominated the interwar years. Full democracy, which Britain achieved in 1928 (under a Tory government), was expected to finish off the Conservatives as a serious political force, but they have made a virtue of adapting to changing circumstances. The course will consider the party's policies, but also its personalities - from Baldwin and Churchill to Powell and Thatcher.

This class will take place on QUB campus
