The seventh part of the History of the USA series will cover the first two decades of the twentieth century, when a serious attempt was made to transform the nation politically and socially, matching the economic and commercial progress that had already been made. Two of the leading 'progressives' were the presidents who book-end this study:Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, 'founding fathers', you might say, of the modern American presidency. These decades also see the beginning of the 'Great Migration' of African Americans from the South into the rest of the nation and of US involvement in the First World War.The securing of female suffrage was perhaps the greatest achievement of the Progressive Era, but it also marked its end - at least for a time.
