The current conflict in Israel/Palestine has deep tangled roots and the prospect of a lasting just peace remains elusive. The course will examine the origins and underlying causes behind the dreadful events in the Middle East in recent years. The Middle East has played a critical role in the development of our Western civilisation past and present. The three main monotheistic religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam all have their origins there - and yet, the region has been a Cockpit of conflict for over 3,000 years right up to the present day. The course will attempt to explain this dichotomy and to offer some hope for the future (????) The tutor will draw on his personal experiences of the Region to try to explain and illustrate the true nature of its problems.
