This course will be delivered by archaeologists from the Centre for Community Archaeology, Queen’s University Belfast as part of the Community Archaeology Programme Northern Ireland (CAPNI), supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players. This fully illustrated lecture series will cover the Practice of Archaeology in Ireland. Topics covered will include Ancient DNA, Recording the Past on Excavations, Artefacts, Vernacular Architecture, Buildings Archaeology, Maps and Surveying, the Science of Archaeology, Industrial Archaeology, and Maritime archaeology. The lecture series will be delivered in a hybrid format. People can either attend the classes in person or attend remotely. Reading lists for the various lectures and the individual lectures themselves will also be put up on Canvas after they have been delivered.(Our 2025/2026 CAPNI Introduction to the Practice of Archaeology in Ireland is a stand-alone course but also acts as a complement to our 2024 CAPNI Introduction to the Archaeology of Ulster course.
