Autumn 2025

20 weekly sessions on Wednesdays 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm, starting 24 September

If you are interested in ancient Greece, its language and literature, then you will enjoy this course. This year we will read two books from the 'Iliad', Book 16 where Patroclus is killed by Hector and Book 18 where Achilles grieves for Patroclus and is awarded a new set of armour before returning to the fighting. As well as dealing with translation and points of grammar, we will consider these two books within the context of Homer's poem as a whole.

Textbook: 'Reading Homer, Iliad , Books 16 and 18'; Joint Association of Classical Teachers' Greek Course; C.U.P.[2023] '

This class will take place on QUB campus
